Vegan. Foodie. Nutritionist.

The composition of crisco has been surprisingly dependent on nutrition.  One wouldn’t think that a company producing a fat product that is used in deep frying and baking would be so concerned with consumer health.  I’m not saying this is a bad thing.

In my experience with “dieters” and other health and nutrition professionals I believe they are sometimes too absolute.  For example, everyone knows someone who is a chronic dieter, someone who cycles on and off a diet but never really loses any weight.  This person has most likely said something like “I’m on a diet, I can’t eat any chocolate.” To this I say that you are right in the sense that you might want to decrease the amount/frequency of chocolate indulgence (because of additives like milk and sugar), but you by no means should ban it from your life.  Diets should be all about learning moderation.  This way you satisfy your cravings and get all your nutrients without going overboard.  Moderation prevents cycling, it is a sustainable diet. Eat less, eat better, enjoy what you eat.
